Founded in 1960 by John Bissell, Fabindia is India’s largest private platform for a wide variety of products crafted from conventional techniques and hand-based processes. It was started primarily as an exporter of home furnishings.
However, during the 1980s, Fabindia introduced its clothing range made from hand-woven and hand-made fabrics. In the early 2000s, the organic food collection was added, followed by the personal care products range in 2006 and handcrafted jewellery in 2008.
Fabindia aims to promote the diverse traditional crafts of India. Furthermore, the company combines indigenous craft techniques with modern designs to create an amazing range of products. Over 55,000 rural artisans are connected to urban markets through Fabindia, thereby creating skilled, sustainable rural employment while preserving India’s traditional handicrafts.
